Sharing God's Love and the Gift of Sight in the Foothills of the Andes
What a week - I don't even know where to start! After meeting up in Guayaquil with medical and eye team members from Ohio and Texas, God's Eyes team Panama headed up into the foothills of the Andes for an intense week of sharing the love of Christ and serving the beautiful people of Pallatanga, Ecuador. For team 'ojos' (eyes) we had six folks from Panama, two from Texas, one from Ohio and three from Pallatanga, including Marcelo, the Chief of the local Bomberos (firefighters). Marcelo thought it was quite funny that some of our team members were so much taller than he and that the guys from Texas looked like vaqueros (cowboys). There were lots of laughs. It never ceases to amaze me how we can be so very different, but drawn together to work joyfully in service as brothers and sisters in the family of God.
In the six days we were in Pallatanga we held seven clinics, loving on and sharing with over 550 people in this beautiful mountain setting. We were able to to give the gift of sight to a number of people that had never seen anything clearly beyond arm's length. Kenneth, age eight, froze and said, "W O W..." when we put his glasses on. He then immediately began running around pointing to the insects swirling around the lights and equipment in the examination rooms. 24 year old Kelly just held her mother as they both cried - she had never seen anything clearly beyond a few inches away before that moment. All in all, we were blessed to share over 1150 pairs of custom Rx, reading and sun glasses.
Praise God for His love and kindness! We are so blessed to be allowed to serve Him in such a meaningful way.
